Group & Private Childbirth Education Series

Empowering Birth Classes are a unique service provided to new and expanding families in the Tidewater Area of Virginia. These classes are offered in a group setting or by private instruction. This series is ideal for parents seeking information in exercise, nutrition, labor, birth, postpartum and breastfeeding. The curriculum was designed and written by an experienced educator and birth advocate.  It is based on the Holistic Model of Birth and current evidence-based maternity care research. The group series is eight weeks in length and meets for a total of 20 hours. The group series offers:

  • 8-week course (2 ˝-3 hours each week).
  • 5-6 couples per class (small and intimate).
  • Couples arranged on comfortable pillows and blankets on the floor. Circular formation.
  • Open dialogue.
  • Enrichment videos and audio, stories, and individual/group activities.
  • Class journal provided for each couple/student.
  • Class Binder given to each student/couple.

Private Class Sessions

Private classes are offered to those individuals which cannot attend the group class series or need more personalized attention. There are three different options available and the cost varies. Each student will receive an abbreviated Student Binder with their registration fee. Please see the "Private Class" page for topics covered.
